Wow Pat Robertson, wow. When you said hurricanes are caused by god being mad at us for openly gay people in our culture, we (outside of zealot nut jobs) just thought you were crazy. This is much worse, and much scarier, because you’re clearly serious despite trying to laugh it off, and it’s the kind of thing your sheeple might actually act upon.

    Chauvinism at it’s best (worst)!

as Christians we firmly believe that ‘if there is no ultimate truth to guide and direct political activity, then ideas and convictions can easily be manipulated for reasons of power. As history demonstrates, a democracy without values easily turns into open or thinly disguised totalitarianism’ (Centesimus Annas, n. 46)” — Pope John Paul II to the Sixth Plenary Session of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, February 24, 2000.

      Dear Perth,

It would be awesome if there was an ultimate guide to morality and values. Sadly, there isn’t.

Instead, we have two options. Either we take responsibility for this planet and have a rational, open discussion about values and ethics and human rights, based on scientific and philosophical insights. Or we listen to elderly virgin shamans with funny hats claiming that they have a right to treat you and me like shit because they regularly hear voices in their heads.

Which of these two alternatives, if I may ask, do you prefer?
