Here’s a test for you. Which regime in the world has the most extreme fundamentalist religious lunatics in the halls of power?
Iran? Hamas? Israel? Taliban war lords?
Not anymore. Those are amateurs. Right now it seems the United States of America is taking the lead.
Sounds crazy, right? Well, don’t take my word for it. Check this video and listen yourself to what presidential candidate Rick Perry’s allies are saying themselves in public speeches. Examples:
- As economic policy, avoid sex with demons
- Hitler preferred gay soldiers because of their limitless savageness and brutality
- God sent Hitler in order to hunt the Jews back to Jerusalem
- People of “counterfeit religions” [non-Christian] shall have no rights
- Oprah Winfrey is harbinger of the Anti-Christ
- The statue of liberty is a demonic idol
These are well-funded, admired, powerful people, funded by gullible Christians. (And also funded by non-believers who still go to church because they don’t wish to upset their faithful friends.)
One of Perry’s own brilliant ideas is that the country’s financial trouble is beyond the power of human beings and politicians such as himself; it can only be resolved by a miracle from God, which is why he arranges massive state-wide and national prayer rallies to ask God for help.
This man, with friends like this, and who himself regularly hears voices in his head, wants to have his finger on the Big Red Button.
Check the video yourself, and check the sources. Then get engaged, come out as an atheist, and oppose these ravings lunatics before they start a religious war that could bring humankind back to the stone age, or worse.
The risk is very real. In all this idiocy, it’s easy to forget that one of the main teachings of Christianity is that Christ will return, whereupon the world ends in a violent apocalypse. If you don’t believe that, you’re not a real Christian.
“People who harbor strong convictions without evidence belong at the margins of our societies, not in our halls of power.” ~ Sam Harris
