We’re a bit too quick to dismiss the May 21 believers as fruitcakes. Remember that pretty much all Christians believe in the Eschaton. And Jews and Muslims too. Believers will fly up to heaven and God will send the rest of us to burn in hell for eternity.
Presidents and world leaders believe this too. If you don’t believe it, you’re not a real Christian, or Muslim or Jew.
So what’s the actual difference between the nutters and the 3 billion people who share a more regular notion of the abrahamitic faith? The difference is which date it will happen. The rest of the poison is exactly the same.
